From tiny Acorns…

This stole is my very first true commission and I am both excited and a little trepidatious. I have been asked if I can design something for ‘ordinary time’, so the main colour is to be green. The client wanted something abstract, possibly incorporating an oak tree or a landscape.

I began by doing a couple of small quick pen sketches and sent them off to see if I was on the right lines. It was decided that we would go with the oak tree design.

The next stage was to scale it up to full size and to add colour. I had a bit of a brainwave and went out on a walk and collected some oak leaves which I then did rubbings of. I cut them out and added them to the design. I decided that some of the leaves would be created using the ‘cut away ‘ technique I love, are marked with a small dot on the drawing.

Samples of silk were ordered and then everything packaged up and sent to the client for approval. It is at this stage that discussions can take place and any alterations made.

It is very important to me that this is a two way process and the client gets something as close to what is in their mind as possible.
