The commission for this stole came from a client who is training at the Open Sanctuary in Scotland and wanted their stole to reflect the ethos of their beliefs. I was asked to include the Open Sanctuary logo, some birds in flight, a tree in full leaf, a sailboat on rippling water and their own ‘Make a Vow’ log of a heart. As the logo is of a person sitting in a meditative position I thought it lent itself to the person being seated in front of the tree and the design evolved from there.
This stole is created in ivory silk Dupion with the images machine appliqued on using complementary coloured thread. It is an example of a ‘scenic’ stole.
