Now that the tree trunk is in place I can start to add the leaves. They are worked in exactly the same way as the background and trunk the only difference is the width of the zig-zag stitching. I decided that this should be narrower so that the more detailed shapes could be achieved.
I have an attachment on my sewing machine that allows me to raise the feeder foot with my knee, this leaves both my hands free to move the fabric.

This photo shows a leaf ready to be zig-zagged before being trimmed to the finished shape.
All the leaves are now stitched in place.
