The inspiration for this stole came from 1 Kings 19:9-18 where Elijah hears the voice of God. The client wanted their stole to reflect the hills and crags of the Peak District. It was to have a ‘stained glass’ feel and also feature a figure with their face lifted towards light radiating from the mountains. I found an image of Stanage Edge which I used as my ‘mountains’ to tie the design to the Peak District and a place familiar to my client. Where the radiating light cuts across the rock face the silks change to blues giving the stained glass window effect they were wanting.
This stole was made using ivory Dupion silk with coloured silk appliqued pieces, stitched down with gold thread. This is an example of a ‘scenic’ design.
