Cheshire Countryside Stole

This commission came as a gift for a minister from her parishioners for her Ordination this summer. It was a new one for me as they wanted it to feature a red tractor, a black and white cow and a Cheshire wheatsheaf on one side and a neon cross on the other. This was, artistically quite a challenge! I didn’t want it to look cartoon-like, or a quaint rural idyll and I have to credit my son for the idea of a sewn thread drawing the images.

It is worked on green silk Dupion with gold machine embroidered applique. The ‘sewn’ thread is couched with 3ply gold twist thread to add some definition.
