The brief for this commission was definitely to be all about the swifts. The client wanted the stole to capture the fluidity and movements of these annual visitors to where they lived. I loved the idea of trying to give the impression of movement and energy of these beautiful little birds, I kept the birds as simple silhouettes with stitched lines to give the impression of them swooping and swirling through the sky. On the back neck seam I was asked to add a specific cross with a little shield beetle as a poignant reminder for the client.
This stole was created using ivory silk Dupion with gold ‘swifts’ and movement lines. The client also ordered an identical stole in green.
