Dove Chasuble and Stole

The inspiration for this chasuble and its companion stole came from the dove window in St Peter’s Basilica as it spoke to my client in two ways, to her Anglo catholic style and the glass mosaic and its colour to her ‘eccentric artist within’.

The colours in the rays of the orphrey panel were to start pale behind the dove, passing through yellow, oranges and browns to shades of purple. On the back of the chasuble rather than an orphrey my client chose to have a small panel of a candle in front of a cross. When designing the stole I felt that it should reflect the theme of the chasuble but not be a copy of it, so I focused on the outline of the rays and interspersed the colours used in the orphrey.

The orphrey and stole were made in Dupion silks, machine embroidered in gold metallic thread.
