This commission came from parishioners of a United Reform Church in Liverpool, not too far from where I live. The stole was to be given as a gift to celebrate their minister being elected as the Moderator of General Assembly for 2024/25. The brief was to include a Liverbird, the symbol of their church but with a rainbow coloured fish and a fishing net with fish in it. On the back neck seam there is a sunflower and honey bee which are both symbols of Texas in the USA where their minister is from. Hidden on the inside are a tiny pair of ruby slippers.
This stole was crafted using a blue two tone Dupion silk with appliqued silk motifs, stitched down in gold thread.
