Do This In Remembrance Of Me

I haven’t been able to put very much on my website for quite a while what with one thing or another but recently I have been asked to complete two commissions, which has been brilliant. I love the challenge of a new commission, from the initial idea right through to the finished item.

In the middle of August I got an enquiry about making some face masks from an uncle, for an ordination gift for his nephew.

We chatted and it turned out he literally lived a few doors away. He came round and we had a ‘socially distanced’ meet up in the garden, the face masks had now turned into an altar cloth !!! Amazing.

He put me in touch with his nephew and he chose the words ‘Do this in remembrance of me’ as the inspiration for the cloth.

His church is a Hope church and it was important that the cloth was fairly simple in design, to include bread and a chalice.

The words ‘Do this in remembrance of me’ was also to be included. The design to be placed in one of the corners as the cloth needed to be draped with one of the corners pointing to the floor at the front.

It was lovely to be doing some couched lettering, a new thing for me and the deep burgundy thread was a beautiful contrast to the ivory silk. The bread and wine symbols I have used before on stoles and a chasuble.

One of my favourite things to create is the bunch of grapes and it was joyous to be able to create them again(there’s a short video of me stitching this bit on my Facebook page)

So from a face mask to an altar cloth VOILA !!!

  1. Elaine, thank you very much for this wonderful alter cloth. I loved how easy and exciting the process was, from discussing ideas, to seeing hand sketches and then receiving the finished product. The cloth is beautiful, with such quality and detail.

Thank you for the personal touch of how you incorporated our “Hope” name into the chalice, in the same style as our church logo, making this a unique and hugely symbolic piece.

    Thank you once again.

  2. Thank you for your comment but all my pieces are bespoke one off items. If you would like to commission an altar cloth please go to my Contact me page and put in your details and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Elaine
